Moscow 2017
In May 2017, Symphonic Brass Wales were invited to perform at the prestigious Victory Day celebrations in Moscow, Russia. One of the most important Russian national holidays, the Victory Day celebrations are held across Russia each year on May 9th.
SBW visited the Russian capital from the 7th to 14th of May, participating in the celebrations by marching in "The Immortal Regiment" Parade and giving a series of concerts in the city's parks and concert halls. Alongside fellow performing groups from Italy, New Zealand & Scotland, SBW were among the first foreign groups invited to participate in the parade, which each year sees tens of thousands of descendants of Second World War soldiers march through Moscow's main streets, including the iconic Red Square, bearing photographs of their ancestors.
Footage of the parade can be found in the videos below, while the official website of the Immortal Regiment Parade can be found here while below can be found footage of an ensemble from the band performing the beautiful Rachmaninov "Bogoroditse Devo" inside an Orthodox Church, a highly unusual occurrence and possible first for any instrumental ensemble.
